ABOUT THE ODISHA – HOCKEY INDIA GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
The Odisha State Government will be establishing 17 Hockey Centres across 17 blocks of Sundergarh district in Odisha as an initiative to produce positive outcomes in field hockey at the grassroots level in the state. Hockey India with support from the Odisha State Government to run a Grassroots Development Programme with an objective to increasing the depth of hockey talent in Odisha and also provide Primary, Sub Junior & Junior Category hockey players training and development facilities across all the 17 Hockey Centres.
The Odisha – Hockey India Grassroots Development Programme will take three pronged approach for the development of the sport in Odisha: –
i.Engaging primary school kids to start playing Hockey from a young age with a School Based Participation Programme –
“Love4Hockey” Programme
ii.Providing a performance based development programme for Primary, Sub Junior & Junior category players training and development facilities across all Hockey centres-
Grassroots Performance Development Programme
iii.Create a pathway for promising Coaches to assist in the development and training of India’s best sub junior/ junior players while working under the supervision of experienced Senior Coaches –
Coaching Education Programme
The Hockey Centres will come up in Balisankara, Bargaon, Bisra, Bonai, Gurundia, Hemgir, Koida, Kuarmunda, Kutra, Lahunipada, Lathikata, Lephripada, Nuagaon, Rajgangpur, Subdega, Sundargarh and Tangarpalli.
The High Performance Academy at Bhubaneswar will remain as the main site for State Squads to train and prepare for National Tournaments with current facilities available to conduct High Performance Programmes at Kalinga Stadium. Each Hockey Centre will have dedicated Coaching and Management staff for selection of Primary, Sub Junior and Junior Men/ Women Hockey players for the respective Hockey Centres.
